I blame Stylingo UK and What Molly Loves almost singlehandedly for the jump in my beauty related spending recently. I’ve always been more of a fashion loving kind of girl, I’d rather spend money on new clothes and shoes than make up and other such lotions and potions.
How wrong was I?
Through these blogs (and others), my eyes have been opened to the scarily huge world of beauty products. I’m actually getting a tiny bit hooked on trying out all these fancy new things and, although I’ve heard mixed reviews of the various ‘beauty boxes’ you can subscribe to, I still fancied
being a sheep giving one a try. Seeing as I trust the girls over at Stylingo with my life face, after reading Lauren’s positive review of Love Me Beauty (formerly known as Beauteco Box) I decided that they were going to be the lucky recipients of my hard earned £10 (plus postage).
Unfortunately for me, the great introductory freebie code that Lauren gives in this review to get two free products didn’t work for me (I’ve a sneaking suspicion that I thought I’d added it on but actually hadn’t… DOH) but feel free to give it a try as it worked great for her so it’s probably just me being an idiot!
I was quite pleased with my haul – I received (in no particular order… except what I liked best!)
1. Lord & Berry lipstick (Peach Gleam shade)
2. Lord & Berry lip liner (Blossom shade)
3. Melvita Apicosma extra rich hand cream
4. Melvita fresh moisturising body milk
5. Melvita orange blossom floral water
First up, the lipstick. I’ll hold my hands up and say I’m not a huge wearer of anything lip related. Gloss just irritates me as my hair sticks to it, I’ve never even tried lip liner before (but I promise, now I actually own one, I will!) and although I have no particular beef with lipstick, I tend to either forget to apply it at all or apply it once in the morning and then forget to reapply throughout the day. What can I say, I’m a lazy make up wearer. However I’m determined to try and make more of an effort with this one because I love it. It’s a great shade, I’ve never worn a browny shade of lipstick before and it’s perfectly understated for work so I don’t feel/look like I’ve made too much effort. Or like a drag queen (stupid free, bright red lipstick that I refuse to throw away, I’m looking at you!)
I was really pleased to get a hand cream as I wanted one for my desk at work and, being a sample size, this one is perfect for the job! I wasn’t particularly impressed with the smell however and it took quite a while to absorb into the skin (one of my pet hates is sticky hand lotion hands) so I don’t think it’ll be replacing my beloved Vaseline Intensive Hand Rescue any time soon but I’ll probably use it until it runs out
because I’m too lazy to take it home again.
Next up is the body milk. This product irritated me with it’s Americanised spelling of the word ‘moisturizing’. Stop putting ‘Z’s in everything please (and yes I said ‘zed’, NOT ‘zee’!!)
Aside from that though, I only used this product on my face (it is only a sample size after all) as it tends to get dry except my nose is often oily…. I am right beauty bloggers, in thinking this makes me a combination skinned gal? It smells gorgeous and my face felt lovely, smooth and oil free after using it so this one gets a big thumbs up from me!
Finally, the floral water. Firstly I’m going to admit that I had no idea what this was for and the packaging did nothing to enlighten me (have they not heard of directions???) So please, leave comments and explain to me what this stuff is for as I’m too lazy to google. Secondly however, I HATED the smell of it so even if I knew what it was for, I doubt I’d use it!
My overall verdict on this box is luke warm. I loved two of the products and disliked the other two so it will eventually be the fifth product (the lip liner) that tips the balance one way or the other when I get round to trying it! That said, I’ve already ordered my next box as to me even a couple of good products, especially a full sized one like a lipstick, is worth the £10 and I can’t wait to try out September’s box!
To finish… I have an important question for you all. While I don’t label myself (or plan to label myself in the future) as a fashion and beauty blogger, I can see a few more of these posts cropping up here from now on.
So here’s the question. Would you prefer to see those posts…
a) Here in this blog, neatly categorised under one of my menu headings.
b) In a separate fashion & beauty blog
c) Not at all, leave it to the professionals!
